HAFLONG: At a time when development has gained momentum followed by the establishment of peace in the district of Dima Hasao, the lack of work place culture in government offices at Maibang has become a major cause of concern, people alleged.

Maibang, the capital city of the ancient Dimasa kingdom and a subdivisional HQ, has a number of government departments but they run with very few staff as most of the staff allegedly remain absent on various pleas and excuses.

On Thursday, a group of journalists visited several government offices at Maibang but found very few staff present in these offices. The journalists' group visited the office of the Executive Engineer, Irrigation where they were only four grade IV employees and one female staff in the office. In the offices of the Executive Engineer, PWD, and Executive Engineer, PHE, the journalists found only half the staff present.

In the office of the BDO, Diyung Valley Development Block, they found the office empty and not even a peon or chowkidar was present in the office during the office hours.

Many people of Maibang have opined that even after establishment of peace, the office staff are reluctant to attend office and this lack of work culture is deterring the pace of development.
