Lakhimpur AASU brings out rally against Citizenship Act

LAKHIMPUR: Demanding the scrapping of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019, the activists of the Lakhimpur district body of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) once again rocked Lakhimpur on Saturday evening by initiating a massive torchlight rally in North Lakhimpur town. By staging the stir, the organization and the anti-CAA people of the district vehemently opposed the controversial Act and reiterated their determined stand not to approve of the Act.

The activists and dignitaries of the Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) also took part in the stir extending their full support to the agitation programme against the Act.

The protesters shouting slogans to scrap the Act and slammed the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State. They also shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmah for their “arrogant, adamant stand in favour of the Act which is allegedly considered to be a tremendous threat to Assam and the existence of the indigenous communities of the State.

Leading the protest programme, Lakhimpur AASU president Pulok Jyoti Borah and general secretary Dhanmoni Dutta slammed and castigated all those political leaders with regard to the issue. AASU finance secretary Krishna Das, AJYCP assistant general secretary Saurabh Das and the district dignitaries of both organizations along with the activists and common people took part in the agitation programme.
