LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Cancer Centre celebrated the first anniversary of its establishment on Friday. In order to commemorate the day of the establishment, the medical institution organized a ceremonial programme which was presided over by the Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital. In the programme, the consultants of the hospitals were felicitated for the yeoman service rendered by them against many challenges and constraints in an evolving the hospital.
Speaking at the occasion, the Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of LMCH, Dr. HK Bhattacharyya said, “The people of upper Assam are truly blessed by virtue of this facility of Lakhimpur Cancer Centre and at present, the patients of the region do not have to travel anywhere for cancer care which is at par with any reputable similar hospital in India.” Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) of Lakhimpur Gitalee Duwarah also extended her warm wishes to Lakhimpur Cancer Centre on the occasion and assured all help and support from the district administration.
The lakhimpur Cancer Centre was dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with more institutions of its kind on April 28 last year in the presence of the then Governor of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, Tata Trust chairman Ratan Tata and a galaxy of dignitaries. Since the establishment, Lakhimpur Cancer Centre has successfully served the patients suffering from cancer for past one year and is now a real hope for thousands of cancer patients and their families of the surrounding areas. The cancer center is equipped with CT Scan, MRI, and top of the line linear accelerator for precision Radiation therapy to cancer patients. These are community assets which are most advanced and people do not have to travel to other cities any more and are available for non cancer patients as well at most affordable cost. The center offers Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Brachytherapy, Palliative care and a number of other interventional procedures for diagnosis and treatment. The hospital has its own automated labs for diagnostics and has complete infrastructure for most comfortable stay of the patients for day care therapy. The centre treated almost 889 new cancer patients during the last year.
