LAKHIMPUR: Lakhimpur Cancer Centre started functioning by providing health care services from Friday. On Friday, three cancer patients, one from Narayanpur area and two from North Lakhimpur town area of the district reported the Cancer Centre in the first half of the day in the presence of Superintendent Dr. Sudhanshu Sekhar Ghosh to get day care treatment. These patients had been undergoing treatment in other cancer hospitals, stated a press statement issued by Mandira Chayengiya, the Lakhimpur District Information and Public Relation Officer. Expressing optimism, Superintendent Dr. Ghosh said that Lakhimpur Cancer Centre would be potent enough to provide quality services to the patients

On the other hand, team manager of the outreach teams, Sanjib Kumar stated that the teams had been conducting a series of mass awareness programme on cancer at various places under the district. "Life can be saved, if cancer is detected early. So, nobody should be hesitant to visit the doctor or hospital if cancer symptoms reveal," Sanjib Kumar added.

Notably, a total of 3 doctors, 1 biomedical engineer, 1 dentist, 1 radiation safety officer, 17 nurses, 2 laboratory technicians, 4 outreach teams, 3 radiographers, 2 CSSD technicians, 2 insurance counsellors, 1 IT consultant, 5 radiotherapists and 1 OT technician will render services to the cancer patients in the institution.

The diagnostic and treatment facilities of the Cancer Centre regarding LAB and FNAC, Minor OT, Bronchoscopy, Ultasound, X-Ray, CSSD, CT, MRI, LINAC Machine, Brachy therapy, IPD, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy, Day Care Centre, Palliative care centre along with 24 hour free Ambulance service and 24 hour telemedicine, telehelp through National Integrated Grid started from Friday. A total of eight patients reported to the OPD of the Cancer Centre on the first day as per information received at the time of filing this report.
