LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Congress Committee (LDCC) initiated protest programme against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) in Lakhimpur on Friday along with other organizations.

As per instruction issued from Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), LDCC demonstrated an eight hour long fast against the approval of the CAB by Union Cabinet on Wednesday. The protest programme was staged in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s Office from 8.00am to 3.00pm wherein the dignitaries of the LDCC and brother-sister organizations of the political party took part.

Taking part in the programme, LDCC president Dr. Joy Prakash Das came down heavily against the Union Government regarding the issue. “The CAB must be scrapped by the Union Government. BJP is playing vulgar game for its political benefits by passing the CAB in Parliament. The Bill is against the very spirit of the Assam Accord which Congress supports. By initiating attempts to pass the motivated, controversial Bill, the Union Government has sponsored non-democratic threats to the ideals of the Constitution of India and to the demography of the State,” he asserted.
