Lakhimpur DC Appeals to Maintain Law and Order Prior to Publication of NRC

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration is all set for the publication of final National Register of Citizens (NRC) on Saturday, the day fixed by the Supreme Court of India. This was declared by the DC of the district, Dr Jeevan B organizing a media briefing event at 4.30pm on Friday at the conference hall of his office.

“We are all ready to publish the supplementary list of the final NRC on Saturday. The supplementary list of inclusion can be checked by the applicants at the NRC Seva Kendras and following the due processes online. In this regard, nobody should have any confusion”, he stated while addressing the media persons. He further appealed to all to maintain peace and law and order following the publication of the final NRC.

“I called upon all cordially not to spread any rumour regarding the issue and not to be panicked with any unscrupulous elements sponsored by parties or persons with vested interests. Regarding any kind of untoward happenings, the district administration should be contacted immediately which is all time ready to provide due clearance and forward steps in order to wipe out any confusion”, he further added.

Attending the event, Lakhimpur district Superintendent of Police (SP), Hare Krishna Nath said that the security system in the district was tightened in a view to maintain peace and law and order with regard to the publication of the final NRC. “For this purpose, we have divided the district in three zones- Dhakuakhana, Lakhimpur and Bihpuriya. The OCs, ICs and the Sector Officers, covering the NRC Seva Kendras (NSK) under their jurisdiction in the respective zone will supervise the security system across the district. We are in close touch with the public. They have no any apprehensions regarding any issue of the NRC process. We organized a good number of awareness campaigns during the past days covering the common masses”, stated the SP. He further informed that the District Police department had identified 34 sensitive NSKs while 39 were normal. Meanwhile, seven CRPF companies and one Assam Police company have been deployed in the district to be vigilant. In addition to the DC and the SP, ADC cum NRC in-charge Bipul Kumar Das, AC Manabjyoti Das were also present in the media briefing event.
