LAKHIMPUR: Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur-cum-District Magistrate Dr. Jeevan B has issued strict direction for compulsory wearing of face masks in all public places by issuing an order vide No. LMJ. 8/2020/225. The Centre has made wearing of face cover compulsory in all public places. Moreover, government of Assam has also framed the Assam COVID-19 Regulations, 2020 for prevention and containment of the pandemic. Yet some persons are seen not complying with the directions for the use of the face cover. Under such circumstances, the Lakhimpur DC-cum District Magistrate has directed various measures through the order to be complied by the general population within the district.

According to the order, all persons moving in public places must compulsorily wear 3-ply mask or cloth mask. Gamosa or any other traditionally woven cloth in at least two layers covering the nose and mouth can also be used in the absence of cloth masks. No person or official can attend any meeting or gathering without wearing mask. The order has further suggested that the disposable or single use mask must properly be disposed of by following due procedure. Cloth mask should be washed properly with soap and hot water and dried after every single use. They cannot be thrown here and there after use. The employers must ensure that employees wear the 3-ply mask or cloth mask without fail. Anyone violating these instructions on use of face cover will be punishable under the Section 188 of Indian Penal Code. All police officers, not below the rank of Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, are authorized to compound the offence by obtaining fine of Rs. 500 for the first, second and third offence and Rs. 1,000 for the subsequent offences.
