Lakhimpur, September 22: To ensure peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, the district administration convened a meeting at the DC office. The meeting was held regarding the law-and-order situation in the district. All the Puja committees of North Lakhimpur attended the meeting along with staff of DC office, police and transport department personnel.

The meeting was presided over by Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner Debeswar Malakar and he urged all the Puja committees to cooperate in maintaining rules and regulations, law and order and making tight security arrangements for upcoming Durga Puja celebration in the district.

The district administration will provide CCTV in all the Puja pandals for security purpose. The Deputy Commissioner also asked the committees to submit their contact numbers to all the nearby police outpost and stations for instant help in case of emergency. He also said that Section 107 of the CrPC would be strongly enforced and anybody with crimil record in the past would be asked to execute an interim bond (till Durga Puja) swearing against breaching public peace in the police stations concerned.

The district administration is already re-orienting traffic by identifying the busy roads and banning the entry of heavy vehicles on those routes. At the same time, the administration has made it a point to see there is no let-up in policing in the backward areas of the district. “We are taking all the necessary security measures to ensure safety of the pandal hoppers. There are more around 200 major pandals in the district. The district administration has already provided the guidelines to the Puja committees. The Puja organizers have been asked to provide identity cards to their volunteers. The norms for entrance and exit points in pandals have also been laid down. The committees have been asked to keep the celebration simple with the basic necessities in order to lessen the chaos among the people,” said a district administration official.
