LAKHIMPUR: In view of gradual increase in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district of Lakhimpur, Deputy Commissioner Khageswar Pegu, as the chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), has issued a slew of directives under Section 51(B) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 in order to contain the contagion of the disease.

According to these directives, restaurants, dhabas and other cateries can entertain dine-in guest only up to 6:00pm. However, takeaways and home deliveries are allowed up to the usual time of the closure as per local regulations. Similarly, restaurants operating with hotels and resorts can allow outside guests only up to 6:00 pm. The in-house guests of the hotels and resorts can be allowed to dine-in up to usual time of operation. Delivery of essential goods through e-commerce can be continued after 6:00pm. Cold storage, warehouses can continue their operations beyond 6:00 pm. But sale counters, showrooms attached to the warehouses, cold storages must be closed after 6:00 pm.

Thorough the same order, all market places, super markets, shops in the malls and the weekly markets of the district are directed to close their operations by 6:00 pm every day. However, pharmacies, hospitals, animal care centres, being providers of essential and emergency services, are exempted from these restrictions.

On the other hand, all academic institutions, including schools, colleges and universities are directed to provide quality virtual options. Not more than 50 per cent students should attend their educational institutions in person on any day. Schools must stagger class timing so that large scale release of students does not arise. There will be no morning assembly or special assembly in the educational institutions. Primary schools are directed to give preference on online mode of teaching. In the district, these restrictions have already come into effect and they will remain in force until April 30.
