LAKHIMPUR: Following the national directives issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs for COVID-19 management, and the guidelines issued by the Government of Assam for the prevention and the containment of the same, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate of Lakhimpur, Khageswar Pegu has declared strict orders under 144 CrPC to check the spread of the second surge of the pandemic in the district.

According to the order, the Deputy Commissioner has made the wearing of face masks by all individuals and maintenance of the social distancing norms compulsory in the public places, working places, public vehicles in the district. Moreover, spitting in the public places is strictly prohibited. All government and non-government establishments, business establishments shops, hotels and restaurants must keep provisions for thermal scanning, hand sanitizers and hand wash at the entry points. Any person violating the above measures will be liable to be proceeded against as per the provisions of Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 besides legal action under Section 188 of Indian Penal Code and other legal provisions applicable.

On the other hand, four more COVID-19 patients were detected in Lakhimpur district during the last 24 hours. One of them has been identified as Dhrubajyoti Borah living at Padmapur, Tatibahar under Dhalpur Block Primary Health Center area. He was working at a private sector establishment in Pune, Maharashtra and he arrived home on Friday. He was suffering from fever and cough due to which he underwent medical check-up at Dhalpur BPHC on Saturday. Then he was detected to be positive for coronavirus infection as per result of Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). Now he has been put to home quarantine.

The other two persons who were found to be positive for coronavirus infection on the same day have been identified as Benjamin Orang (30) living at Ananda Tea Estate, and Bideswari Payeng (29) living at Chawaldhowa under Boginadi BPHC. The fourth person is Diganta Borah (28) who tested positive for coronavirus infection through Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RtPCR) Test. He also returned home from Maharashtra.

With the four newly-detected patients, Lakhimpur district has registered a total of 8,061 COVID-19 cases since April 4 of the last year till day. Out of them, 7,994 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while there are 7 active cases at present. Notably, 59 people died due to coronavirus infection in the district during the first wave of the pandemic.
