Lakhimpur district administration to initiate strict action against drunken driving
The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting of Lakhimpur was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Friday.

LAKHIMPUR: The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting of Lakhimpur was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan in the presence of SP Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa, District Transport Officer Satyakam Gogoi and all the members of the DRSC.
The meeting held detailed discussion over the reasons for the accidents that took place in the district in the past days. As per record, a total of 18 persons of the district lost their lives due to accidents in the month of January. In the meeting, the DRSC members apprised the reasons of the accidents which they found after they had visited the spots where the accidents took place. It was found that the most of the accidents took place because of riding bikes or other vehicles in drunken conditions.
Though the police department has continued regular checking by setting up check posts at various places in order to control drunken driving, it is found that most of the accidents have taken place in the places where there are no police check posts. The Deputy Commissioner directed the departments concerned to initiate steps to check all the causes of the accidents in the district. In this connection, the meeting laid stress on the extensive public awareness and their cooperation with the district administration and police department in order to build Lakhimpur into a district free of accidents. The meeting also laid stress on strict action on the part of the district administration against drunk driving.
In the same meeting, the Deputy Commissioner, on behalf of the DRSC, handed over ten breath analyzers to SP Bedanta Madhav Rajkhowa so that the police department could take action against drunken driving and impose fines on traffic rule violators. The meeting also held discussion over the management of speed breakers on the roads of various places under North Lakhimpur and Bihpuria Municipal Boards.
