LAKHIMPUR: Two more persons died due to COVID-19 in the Lakhimpur district on Wednesday. They have been identified as Arun Purti (27), resident of Harmoti Merbil under Bihpuriya Block Primary Health Centers (BPHC) area and Rupeswar Dutta (87), resident of Gharmora Na-Pamuwa under Boginadi BPHC area. He breathed his last in Catholic Hospital, Borgang under Biswanath district while the latter died in Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH).

On the other hand, a total of 84 fresh COVID-19 cases were detected in the district on Wednesday. Out of them, 82 cases were found to be positive for COVID-19 as per Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) while the other two cases were detected as per the RTPCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) Test. The RAT cases were reported from Dhalpur BPHC (5), Bihpuriya BPHC (11), Naoboicha BPHC (8), Boginadi BPHC (13), Ghilamora BPHC (3) Dhakuakhana BPHC (16), Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital Respiratory Clinic (16) and Private Nursing Homes (10). On this day, the District Health Department conducted only 4521 RATs in the nine COVID-19 test centres of the district including the Block Primary Health Centers (BPHCs) and private nursing homes and registered 65.90 per cent achievement in conducting the RAT to detect COVID-19 patients out of the targeted figure 6860.

With these fresh patients, the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases of the district during the second wave of the pandemic has hiked to 9483 since April 1 of this year. Out of them, 8627 recovered patients have been discharged from hospitals and home quarantine while 760 have been active cases at present. On Wednesday, 114 recovered patients were discharged from institutional isolation while 26 recovered patients were discharged from home isolation. During the second wave, 96 people succumbed to the COVID-19 in the district raising the overall tally of the pandemic fatalities up to 155 including the last year's fatalities.
