Lakhimpur joins nation in 73rd Independence Day celebration with full enthusiasms

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the nation, the 73rd Independence Day was celebrated across Lakhimpur on Thursday with full enthusiasms and festivities. The programmes, organized on this occasion by Lakhimpur district administration kicked off with songs of patriotism presented by District Information and Public Relation department. Then National Flag was hoisted at the public residences, governmental, non-governmental and academic institutions across the district.

Finance, Health and PWD Minister of the State government, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarmah took part as the chief guest in the Independence Day celebration programmes which was organized by the Lakhimpur district administration at North Lakhimpur Govt. HS School playground. After paying floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Maidan, the minister hoisted the National Flag at 9am in presence of Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B, SP Hare Krishna Nath and other officials and employees of the district administration, police department along with a huge gathering of public. In his speech, Dr. Sarmah paid deep homage to the freedom fighters of the nation and highlighted the success and developmental activities of Narendra Modi-led union government and Sarbananda Sonowal-led State government. He took the guard-of-honour of 26 marching troops in the parade ground participated by Lakhimpur Police department and various schools and colleges of the district. Then he felicitated the freedom fighters, senior citizens of district along with the successful persons who had brought laurels to the district. It was followed by a cultural event with the participation of the students of various schools and colleges and cultural groups. Light food items and fruits were distributed among the patients of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospitals and prisoners of the district jail on this occasion.

On the other hand, Lakhimpur ADC cum SDO of Dhakuakhana subdivision, Arindam Baruah hoisted the National Flag in the Independence Day celebration programme organized by the sub-divisional administration. He framed his speech with the developmental activities of the subdivision in addition to taking guard of honour at the parade ground. The sub-divisional administration gave warm felicitations to a galaxy of eminent persons who had contributed much to social, cultural, academic and other sectors of the district.

President Sailen Baruah hoisted the National Flag on the Independence Day event which was held at North Lakhimpur Press Club in the presence of the Lakhimpur head-quarter journalists. Other press clubs and guilds of the district like Bihpuriya Press Club Narayanpur Press Club, Naoboicha Press Club, Bandardewa Press Club, Dhakuakhana Press Guild also observed the 73rd Independence Day.

The day was celebrated by Lakhimpur District Congress Committee at Rajiv Bhavan where president Dr. Joy Prakash Das hoisted the tricolour. President Phanidhar Baruah hoisted the same at Lakhimpur District Bharatiya Janata Party office where the political party and its sister organizations observed the Independence Day in a befitting manner.
