LAKHIMPUR: The number of active COVID-19 cases is on the rise in Lakhimpur district day after day. As a result of it, the load of the COVID-19 patients has also increased in the isolation wards of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH).

In view of this, the existing nursing hostel of LMCH campus, as per approval of the authority, is being converted to COVID-19 treatment ward for better care and amenities of the patients. In this ward, a total of 80 patients can be accommodated.

The ground floor of the ward will exclusively be used for the doctors, health care workers and the patients requiring oxygen support and other critical components. LMCH Additional Superintendent Dr. Nikhil Kakoti, Deputy Superintendent Dr. RaktimBorgohain and Hospital Administrator Dr. SaurabhSaikia will oversee the smooth transfer of the COVID-19 patients from the old designated areas. On the other hand, another Deputy Superintendent of LMCH, Dr. MunindraBordoloi has been made the in-charge of the COVID-19 ward.
