LAKHIMPUR: A student from Lakhimpur district has brought laurels to the State by holding record with her unique talent of rapid reading. With this talent she has registered her name in the India Book of Record by reading 162 words in just 30 seconds.

The student is Maina Chutia, daughter of Bhaitee Chutia and Mamoni Chutia, resident of Krishnapur village under Ghunasuti area of the district. She is a student of 5th semester at Lakhimpur Girls College studying Political Science as a major subject.

Notably, the record of the same category in the India Book of Records was also held by another student from Lakhimpur named Swadhin Gogoi before Maina Chutia broke it. Swadhin is the inhabitant Dhakuakhana and he made this record by reading 145 words in 30 seconds.

Maina applied to the India Book of Record authority to participate in the record holding event in the month of July. The India Book of Record authority on August 20 confirmed that Maina had been holding the record by breaking the previous. She received the certificate of appreciation, medal, badge and identity card sent from the India Book of Record authority by post on Saturday.

Maina loves to write poems and she has already published an anthology of poems named Hepahor Ejak Borosun. She is also efficient in blowing flute and Nagara, the traditional musical instruments of native culture.

For her achievement, well-wishers have congratulated Maina who has held the record hailing from a place like Ghunasuti which has still been eluded from developmental activities in all sectors including education, health, communication and transport. Director of Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra— Jiten Baruah, member Bhagyalakhi Deka feted Maina with phulam gamosa on Friday. Maina has appealed the State government and the district administration to ensure development in Ghunasuti so that the people of the area can march forward with progressive time and the students can pursue the education of their dreams. She suggested her juniors to go ahead with a strong willpower while talking to this correspondent.
