Lakhimpur unit of AASU demanded steps against illegal liquor dens and drug smuggling

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) expressed its concern over the unabated sale of illegal liquor, drugs along with rampant gambling in various places in Lakhimpur district.

Regarding the issue, a delegation of the organization called on Lakhimpur Additional Deputy Commissioner Bipul Kumar Das on Monday and submitted a memorandum to take strong steps against them. As per the opinion of the organization, the illegal dens of local liquor, smuggling of drugs and unabated gambling have impacted adversely the society and a section of youths as well as adults. The organization alleged that the Excise Department of the district had not taken any initiative against these anti-social elements despite repeated demands.
