Lakhimpur workshop stresses on scientific rearing of poultry & its management

LAKHIMPUR: A day-long awareness training program on ‘Scientific rearing of poultry and its management’ was organized by Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science (LCVSc) at Joyhing Tea Estate.

Literate unemployed youths of the Adivasi community of Joyhing TE, Koilamari, participated in the day-long program organized under the auspices of the Department of Livestock Production Management, Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science, AAU, Joyhing, Lakhimpur. The program started with a welcome speech by Assistant Professor Dr. Siddhartha S Pathak, as the organizing secretary of the training program. The training program was chaired by LCVSc Associate Dean Dr. Uma Ram Tamuli. In his speech, the Associate Dean stressed the importance of poultry farming in the region and urged the trainees to opt for poultry farming in a scientific way and to become self-independent entrepreneurs.

The farmers were taught in detail about scientific management, low-cost feed formulation, common diseases of poultry and their control, economics, and marketing of poultry products. Dr. S.S.Pathak, Dr. Asish Saikia, Dr. Biju Borah, Dr. Sampurna Nand Yadav, and Dr. Kongkonjyoti Dutta acted as resource persons for the technical session. After the technical session, the farmers were taken to the Institutional Poultry Farm maintained under the Department of Livestock Farm Complex. Dr. Kandarpa Borua, Dr. Karuna Saikia and Dr. Koushik Kakoty spoke in length about routine farm practices and chicken breed and varieties available in the farm complex. The program ended with certificate distribution and a vote of thanks from the organizing secretary.
