TINSUKIA: As many as 10 land brokers (middlemen) have been taken into custody by police from across 3 revenue Circles in Tinsukia district on Tuesday. While 5 were from Tinsukia- Robin Gohain (44) and Rukma Gohain (40) of Gelaphukhuri Gaon, Mousam Phukan (46) of Bordoloi Nagar, Rubul Gohain (44) of Guijan Noloni Hola Gaon and Upendra Verma (35) of Hijuguri Bashbari, 3 from Doomdooma- Jugen Mahanta (55) of Azad Road New Colony, Wakil Ahmed (50) and Bijay Shah both hailing from Doomdooma Pathar Gaon under Doomdooma PS and 2 under Margherita circle who have been identified as Amulya Singh (54) of No 2 Lazum Gaon and AjitDey (56) of Faltu Gaon.

MANGALDAI: Following the strict instruction of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Darrang Police too arrested 11 land brokers from different locations of the district on Tuesday. They are Jakir Hussain, Ahmed Ali, Tinsukia district ,Land brokers, Himanta Biswa SarmaSahidul Islam, Akkash Ali of Dalgaon area, Matiur Rahman and Abdush Samad of Sipajhar area and Tajuddin Ahmed, Akkash Ali, Nazrul Hoque Hazarika, Saiful Hoque and Majibar Rahman under Mangaldai Police Station area. Talking to The Sentinel Darrang Superintendent of Police Er Sushanta Biswa Sarma said that more land brokers would be arrested in the district.

NALBARI: Nalbari Police arrested 31 land 'Dalals' or brokers from across the district after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's announcement at a state-level conference of circle officers and Additional Deputy Commissioners-Revenue (ADCs) held in Guwahati on September 8 against the illegal system of hiring land brokers.

The nexus between land 'Dalals' and circle officers along with 'laat mandals' is an open secret for all. Such a corrupt practice has led to a large volume of corruption. Nalbari police has arrested one 'laat mandal' Chakreswar Kalita along with 31 land 'dalals' since Sunday night. According to the CM's announcement, Chief Minister's Vigilance cell has been keeping a close eye and any broker found loitering in revenue circle offices would be arrested.

BARPETA: The Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta lodged an FIR against the land brokers at Barpeta Sadar Police Station. In response to the order of the Chief Minister of Assam, the Deputy Commissioner took initiative against the land brokers. Accordingly, the land brokers were arrested from various places of Barpeta district like Barpetaroad, Howly, Bahari, Sarthebari, Baghbar etc. The deputy commissioner said that it was just a starting, many more officials may come to light if they are involved in such matters.
