Goalpara: Assam Social Welfare and Soil Conservation Minister Pramila Rani Brahma on Tuesday distributed land Patta to 1,420 landless beneficiaries at a government function held at the Natasurya Phani Sarma Bhavan of Goalpara town.

The beneficiaries were selected from the Balijana, Matia, Dudhnoi and Rongjuli revenue circles. There were 878 ST, 64 SC, 105 OBC, and 373 general caste beneficiaries. However, the minister symbolically gifted patta to 15 selected persons.

“Land is the soul and identity of people. The tribal people easily sell their land even in the simplest need and begin to live in the jungle. When the jungle is encroached upon, man-animal conflict begins,” said the minister. The purpose of the programme was explained by Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka while ADC on revenue charge, Ashraful Ameen informed the beneficiaries that they could not sell the allocated land before 15 years under no circumstances.
