Dima Hasao: A devastating landslide hit Hangrum village under the Mahur Police Station in Dima Hasao district on Wednesday morning, leaving two people dead and several others injured. The incident occurred around 10:30 AM along the Mahur-Tamenglong National Highway, when a large section of earth gave way and slid onto the roadside.
The powerful landslide caused extensive damage to nearby shops, with at least five structures reported to be destroyed. Many people in the vicinity were caught off guard by the sudden collapse. Among the deceased are a 60-year-old local resident, Huajenam Riame, and the driver of an excavator whose identity is yet to be confirmed.
Emergency services and local authorities, including police and disaster response teams, swiftly reached the site to begin rescue operations. The injured victims were quickly transported to Haflong Civil Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care.
Rescue efforts are still ongoing as teams continue to search the debris to ensure no one else remains trapped. Officials have urged residents to avoid the area as a precaution, given the risk of further landslides due to ongoing rainfall in the region.
