NUMALIGARH: The last rites of COVID-19 positive patient, Ajit Saikia were performed as per tradition at the Nigambudh Ghat cremation ground located on the bank of the Yamuna River near the Red Fort in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Necessary arrangement was made in the cremation ground for cremation of the body as per protocol in the CNG-run crematorium furnace. A few officials of SPUNER (Special Police unit of NER of Delhi Police) like ASI Chaiytra Singh and Head Constable Sukleshwar Rabha (originally from Boko) were present.

Ajit Saikia, a resident of Golaghat district, died in Delhi after testing positive for COVID-19. He had taken his wife, a cancer patient, to Delhi for treatment. He was accompanied by a neighbour. During their stay in Delhi, all three got infected with COVID-19.
