Leading citizen of Darrang Alhaz Kalimuddin Ahmed passes away

MANGALDAI: Alhaz Kalimuddin Ahmed a leading senior citizen of Darrang district and a permanent resident of Karimchowk of Mangaldai town, is no more. At the age of 89, he breathed his last at 12.35 pm on April 28.
He was born at Nagarbahi near Mangaldai in the year 1931 to a renowned indigenous social worker and businessman Karim Box. Kalimuddin Ahmed was very active in socio-political and business activities since his student life. He was a former Ward Commissioner of Mangaldai civic body for several years. He had contributed a lot in the establishment of educational institutions such as Mangaldai College and Mangaldai Vidyapith High School, apart from donating land for establishment of educational institutions. He was also a member of the governing body of Mangaldai College in the mid-70s. He was a secular-minded man connected with several Durga Puja, Bihu festival and Narikali Mandir in and around Darrang district. In the session of Sahitya Sabha held at Mangaldai in 1974, he was a member of the reception committee for which he was felicitated by Axam Xahitya Xabha.
