Leopard killed, Carcass recovered by Golaghat Police

Numaligarh: Golaghat Police on Saturday received information from sources about killing of a leopard. Acting on the received input, a team of Golaghat police station led by Sub-Inspector Mirel Ahmed recovered the leopard carcass from Torfat Ahomgaon in Golaghat.

The carcass was hidden under the earth and the police team had to dig it out from a hole. After the recovery, police handed over the leopard carcass to the forest department and they will proceed with the post-mortem and other official formalities afterwards.

Talking to The Sentinel, Golaghat Forest Range Officer Pushpadhar Borgohain said, “After completing the post-mortem and other formalities, we will soon register a case against those who are involved in the killing of the leopard. We will make sure that the culprits are behind bars soon.”

Borgohain also thanked the police team for their prompt action and the recovery of the leopard carcass. He also said that the forest department and police would work in full coordination with each other and identify the miscreants who killed the leopard.

Local wildlife conservationists have also condemned the killing of the leopard and sought strict legal action against the persons involved in the killing.
