Guwahati: A second generation from his family, Assam lad Lieutenant Siddhartha Sinha will command his regiment during the Republic Day parade on Rajpath in New Delhi.

Sinha, who hails from Karimganj, joined the forces on November 21, 2020, and is currently posted in the 16 Madras Engineering Regiment.

He studied in an army school in Hyderabad from class 1-12 as his father Laxmikanta was posted there during that period.

Later, he earned a degree from Bhavan's Vivekananda College of Science Humanities and Commerce, Hyderbad, and has opted for the science stream. After this, he completed engineering from the Madras Engineering College before joining the army.

His father, Laxmikanta Sinha devoted 30 years of his life to the Army before retiring.

Meanwhile, For the first time in 75 years, the Republic Day parade will start late by 30 minutes due to the corona protocol and homage to security personnel who lost their lives in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

''The delay is caused due to COVID-19-related restrictions and before the parade begins, homage will be paid to security personnel who lost their life in Jammu and Kashmir,'' media reports quoted a police official as saying.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay tribute to the martyrs by laying wreaths at the Amar Jawan Jyoti and the National War Memorial at India Gate.
