LAKHIMPUR: The life of Puja (3) and Kalyan (6) in an orphanage has come to an end. On Thursday, two couples from abroad legally took over the noble responsibility of adopting the Divyanga children living in Morom in Lakhimpur. The two couples who arrived in Lakhimpur on August 7 to adopt the children are Luke Edwin Nelson, a renowned engineer and his wife Lucia Noemi Wade Nelson from Alabama and Jeffry Pierson Whaley, a rich businessman and his wife Stephanie Marrie Whaley, also from Alabama in the USA.

The Nelson family has adopted Puja while the Whaley family has adopted Kalyan by completing all legal procedure. The natural parents handed over Puja, just one day after she was born without her hands in February 2015, to Morom, a child adoption centre of Lakhimpur managed by the NGO Jagriti Sanmilita Unnayan Kendra. She will now be known as Puja Jacqueline Nelson.

Similarly, Kalyan will now be known as Noah Kalyan Whaley. He had been living in Morom since September 2012 after his natural parents gave him up due to his disability. Having known about them through the internet, the two couples applied to the Government of India for adopting the children through the Children Adoption Resource Authority (CARA). As per their applications, the two children were formally handed over on Thursday.

On this occasion, a special programme was organized at the conference hall of Lakhimpur Zila Parishad Office in the presence of Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B.
