NAGAON: In a trial of a case registered under NDPS Act, Additional District and Session Court, Nagaon pronounced lifetime rigorous imprisonment against one Habil Ali who was arrested along with two persons named as Batu Alom and Mofidul Haque by Nagaon police in 2021 under NDPS Act and also imposed additional penalty of Rs one lakh on the accused on Saturday.
Meanwhile, two other co-accused respectively Batu Alom and Mofidul Haque of the same case were acquitted by the court for lacking insufficient evidence or proof of their involvement, sources said. Nagaon police led by then ASP (HQ) Mohan Lal Meena arrested three accused - Habil Ali, Batu Alom and Mofidul Haque along with more than two kilograms heroin as well as huge cache of cannabis - estimated worth of rupees several cores and cash of Rs 10 lakhs while transporting those objectionable substance last year.
