Liquor shops shut down from Wednesday at 5 PM in Assam

Assam: After facing massive criticism over the opening of liquor shops in the state during the ongoing nationwide lockdown, the Government of Assam, has decided to shut down all wineshops till the further order. The state government had, on Sunday granted permission of opening of liquor shops in the state in permitted days between 10 am to 5 pm. Accordingly, liquor shops were opened since Monday, the first day of the ongoing Rongali Bihu. But a number of road accidents were reported from the state for which a section people blamed the government for granting permission to open wineshops. At last, the government has decided to shut down all liquor shops from 5 PM, on Wednesday. The Government of India has tightened the lockdown norms from today as per the announcement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
