Dhubri Parliamentary Constituency will go to poll on April 23 and in view this, all security measure have been taken, including the deployment of extra forces and intensifying the mobile vigilance in all the sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations across the Dhubri seat.

There are 18,45,119 voters, of which 9,44,025 are male and 9,01,174 are female. The number of polling stations is 2,450. First and second polling officers will be receiving their EVMs and VVPATs from the designated counters set up by poll officials from Monday.

“Polling officers will collect all the election-related materials, including EVMs and VVPATs, from 25 designated counters across Dhubri election district which comprises three assembly segments,” Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-nodal officer of Model Code of Conduct, Animesh Talukdar informed. Talukdar also said that they would complete the distribution of polling materials by 2 pm tomorrow and then review all preparations for the day of election on April 23.

Meanwhile, the 15-day Ashoka Austami Mela which got underway from April 13, will remain closed for four days from April 21. “The step to keep the fair closed for four days was taken from security point of view and to make the poll free of any influence,” said a district administration official. All the traders who have put up their tents in the fair at Dhubri Mela Maidan have resented the decision to close the fair for four days as they will suffer losses.
