Literary event held to encourage upcoming writers in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Ghunasuti, the beautiful landscape on the bank of the River Subansiri in Lakhimpur district, on Sunday, was surged with the reverberation of poetry and blended notes of the Mising folk song recited and presented by a galaxy of poets and vocal artistes during a literary event organized by Dok Poon Gosthi of Ghunasuti titled ‘Topot Boluka Aru Jhao Bonor Suhuri Parhoi Oi: Nitom Aru Kabitar Aranyaloi’ wherein many poets from Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Majuli districts took part.

The event was organized in order to encourage the upcoming writers and artists of Ghunasuti and to create an environment for literary activities in the area which is still lagging behind in development.

The event was held under the management of poet, story teller-cum-professor Gayatri Doley on the bank of the River Subansiri under the open sky amidst the natural environment. The programme, which was chaired by poet Dilip Gogoi, kicked off with a chorus song in the Mising language performed by a group of youths. Noted poets like Mukut Gogoi, Nabin Burhagohain, Kalyani Chakraborti Gogoi, Rajib Baruah, Triranjan Taid, Megharam Payeng, Ruwad Loying, and many others recited self-composed poetry in the programme.

Popular vocal artists Amiyo Chirang, Sakuntala Mili, Mridul Baruah, Prabin Gogoi, Chandra Taid and Bijoya Gogoi stunned the audience with their melodious songs. Noted writer Jatiram Kaman graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
