
Guwahati: Renowned author and Padma Shri awardee Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi has been honored with the prestigious Asom Prakashan Parishad Literary Award-2024 for his exceptional work, Dhar Aru Anyanya Galpo. The award, presented by the Publication Board Assam, recognizes Thongchi's significant contributions to literature and comes with a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs, a citation, an 'anga bastra,' and a bundle of books, as stated by Pramod Kalita, secretary of the Publication Board Assam.
Thongchi, a celebrated literary figure from Arunachal Pradesh, has made a profound impact on the literary world with his evocative storytelling and exploration of human emotions and societal themes. His remarkable work Dhar Aru Anyanya Galpo has earned him this prestigious recognition, cementing his place as one of the most important voices in contemporary Indian literature.
In addition to Thongchi's honor, the publisher of his book, Bonlata, has been awarded the Asom Prakashan Parishad Prakashak (Publisher) Award, further acknowledging the book’s significant role in enriching Assamese literature.
The award will be officially presented to Thongchi during the ongoing Assam Book Fair in Guwahati on December 31. This accolade adds to his long list of prestigious awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2005 for Mouna Outh Mukhar Hriday (Silent Lip, Murmuring Heart), the Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Literary Award by the Asom Sahitya Sabha in 2001, and the Sukapha Award from the Assam government in 2021.
Thongchi has also been honored with the Assam Valley Literary Award in 2017 and the Bhasha Bharati Award by the Central Institute of Indian Languages in 2005, underscoring his enduring legacy in the world of literature.
