DHUBRI: Renowned litterateur Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami was remembered in a function organized by the Department of Assamese of Bholanath College in collaboration with the Dhubri unit of Axam Xahitya Xabha at the college auditorium on Tuesday.

Dr. Chakrabortty in his speech said that Dr. Goswami’s works and writings on varied subjects, including folk cultural, would be remembered for generations to come and called upon the students to study his literary and other works.

Speaking in the meeting, a well-known linguist and litterateur, Dr. Dwipendra Kumar Adhikary in his speech recalled the contribution of Dr. Goswami in the field of literature, which traversed to other States.

“Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami’s knowledge can only be compared with the ocean and his deep knowledge and mastery over various languages enriched his writings,” said Dr. Adhikary.

In his presidential speech, Dr. Upendrajit Sarma, while recalling the contribution of Dr. Goswami, said that he was the pioneer in study and research of Indian folk culture and it was because of his tireless effort that for the first time the Department of Folk Culture was opened in Gauhati University.

“Apart from the Assamese, for his mastery over English language and literature, he was the guest lecturer of the Indiana University of America. In his lifetime, Dr. Goswami penned over 70 books on language, literature and folk culture in Assamese and English and also on Botany in both the languages,” Dr. Sarma said.

He resented that it was very painful that this generation had completely forgotten one of the towering figures in literature, language and folk culture, whose immense contribution should always be remembered for centuries to come in Assam. Earlier, students of the college presented Jyoti's song and marked the beginning of the memorial meeting.
