LAKHIMPUR: The local people of Subansiri area under Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district have alleged massive misappropriation of funds with regard to construction of the Sampora-Karanga connecting road.

The road, which is crucial for the communication of the people living at Subansiri area under P&RD minister Naba Kumar Doley's constituency, has become deplorable at Koupatoni village under Mornoi Gaon Panchayat just after the completion of its construction. The newly constructed road has posed as a threat to the safety of the travellers at that place due to the broken CC paver blocks. The local people alleged that the contractor concerned had used low quality CC paver blocks in order to construct the road as a result of which they started breaking just after completion of the construction.

Notably, the contractor has still not paid any attention to the damaged CC paver blocks and felt no urge to repair the deplorable portion. On the other hand, the road has begun to collapse at a place between Koupatoni and Sampora due to the erosion caused by Sampora river. Though bags full of soil and non-effective bamboo bars were installed to check the erosion, the step ended in smoke and the river has eroded away around half of the road at that place. The water of the river has caused internal damage of the road causing hole and hollow space due to which the local people have expressed fear of imminent accidents. They have demanded probe into the alleged misappropriation of the fund regarding the construction of the road and immediate repairment of the damaged portions.
