GUWAHATI: Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), recently inspected the construction of the Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLP) at Jogighopa, a major project under the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal Master Plan. Strategically situated in the Rangiya Division, the MMLP will be a significant logistics hub, improving connectivity between railways and inland waterways to enable freight movement in Northeast India.
During his visit, Shrivastava assessed significant railway construction works such as track laying, yard development and improvement in connectivity. Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer, ensured that the project was on schedule, and efforts were being made for its early completion. The terminal is intended to facilitate trade and transport, with facilities including modern warehouses, cold storage facilities, customs clearance services, and several rail sidings to suit high-volume freight.
Located 91 km from Gelephu (Bhutan), 108 km from the Bangladesh border, and 147 km from Guwahati, the Jogighopa MMLP will serve as a crucial gateway for cross-border trade with Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Nepal. The rail infrastructure involves the construction of three tracks of rail, with expansion possibilities up to five tracks in the future. The terminal, once in full operation, is expected to handle 50 rakes monthly, moving critical commodities like auto components, fertilizers, and food grains.
Besides, the newly formed Inland Waterways segment has started operations, enhancing cargo movement to Bangladesh. The Multi-Modal Logistics Hub (MMLP) is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, enhance supply chain efficiency, and facilitate industrial growth in the region. The development is a testament to NFR's dedication to facilitating economic growth and regional connectivity.
