DEMOW: With just one day left for the Durga Puja celebrations to begin, low-key preparation for Durga Puja is being witnessed among the believers here. The usual excitement is missing among the people of Demow as the economic conditions of most of the people here are poor.

Moreover, due to the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities, the general public are facing a harrowing time. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic since the last two years, the public including also the middle class, businessmen facing a lot of suffering.

Last time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, very few Durga Pujas were organized in Demow. Compared to the previous year, more Durga Pujas will be organized in Demow. The roadside vendors who used to sell fancy items have already opened their roadside shops here. But, customers have not flocked there as in previous years.

"At this point of time, it is difficult for us to buy essential commodities for the price rise," said a resident of Demow, adding, "we cannot even think of buying special items or new clothes during the Puja time."

Moreover customers are yet to flock to the clothes markets this time in Demow.

The Durga Puja will be organized following the SOPs issued by the State Government. The 'Bel Baran' (Bel Shasti) will be on Monday; and on that day, the idols of Durga Maa will be brought to the mandap.
