Dibrugarh: Jinti Barman of the Geography Department of DHSK College was awarded with LP Dutta Memorial Award as she secured the highest marks in her BA examination for 2017-18 session. The award comprises a sum of Rs 5,000, a certificate and traditional gamusa and hofura. Last year this award was won by Holi Dehingia from the Geography Department of DHSK College also. This award was given for the second time in a row by DHSK College in memory of Dr. LP Dutta, one of the founders of the college and an eminent educationist.

The meeting organized on the occasion was presided over by the Principal, Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia. Renowned Community Development Consultant and social worker, Swetangana Bhuyan graced the meeting as chief guest. In her speech, she mentioned the famous book Robinson Crusoe and told the students that instead of running after monetary goals in their career, they should choose a self-reflective career and try to work for the benefit of the society in every way possible. She also quoted a verse from Ruskin Bond’s Dare to Dream and encouraged the students to think outside the box and become well aware of the fast-paced world. She urged everyone present to work for the development of the society and try to build a better world.

Dr Bharati Dutta, former professor of DHSK College, in her deliberation highlighted the life of Dr. LP Dutta and how he had contributed his whole life to setting up DHSK College, DHSK Commerce College, MDKG College and Dibrugarh University. Rupnanda Dutta, a family member of LP Dutta, narrated how she was constantly supported and guided by Dr. LP Dutta. Head of the Geography Department, Dr. Mitali Chaliha, Professor Hemanta Timsinha and many other dignitaries attended the meeting.
