Magh Bihu 2022 has arrived and women in the households are busy preparing different types of food items to enjoy along with families, relatives and neignbours while celebrating the festival of joy.

The festival is celebrated in different Indian states with different names such as Lohri in Punjab, Uttarayan in Gujarat, Pongal in Tamil Nadu and Makar Sankranti in Northern India.

The food served during the huge celebrations holds great value in the life of Assamese people as it is the festival that marks the ending of the harvesting season.

The delicacies prepared at the time of Magh Bihu have traditional significance that represents the state. Rice is a common ingredient that is mainly used to prepare various types of traditional food in Bihu.

Here are some of the lip-smacking delicacies that one must-have during the occasion of Bihu:

1. Til Pitha: One can never deny the special taste of Til Pitha which is made with the help of rice flour and black sesame. This is formed of cylindrical shape and needs a lot of effort to prepare. Rice needs to be soaked, strained and dried finely for more than 2 hours and then roasted black sesame is put inside the shape of roti made from grinded rice.

2. Narikol Pitha: This delicacy is prepared just like the Til Pitha with the same shape of the cylinder only the ingredient inside changes as grated coconut is used in place of the black sesame. It is a favorite snake item for those two who love the sweet taste of coconut.

3. Ghila Pitha: To make this tasty food item rice is soaked, dried and grinded, then it is stirred for 5-10 minutes. Jaggery is added to the rice along with a pinch of salt and water and a nice mixture is prepared. With the help of a hand make small balls of the mixture and then put on heated oil in a fire pan.

4. Poka Mithoi: The ingredients that are required to prepare Poka Mithoi are rice flour, black cumin, black pepper and cardamom powder. It is one of the best choices enjoyed by every Assamese people.

5. Murir Laru: It is a Laru made with the help of puffed rice by adding water, ghee and jaggery. The circle-shaped mixture of very simple ingredients is loved by children, young people and aged people.

6. Til Ladu: Til Ladu is completely made with black sesame and gives a different and special taste that is loved by people across the state. It is available in every household at the time of the Bihu celebration.

7. Narikol Ladu: Narikol Ladu is another type of circular shape sweet prepared during Bihu with the help of coconut and sugar.
