DOOMDOOMA: Great sensation prevailed in the town following the arrest of Shyam Deka (30), a resident of Kumarpati here and husband of Dharana Deka (22), who was found hanged to death in her in-laws' house on Saturday morning.

According to reports, on receiving the news of her death, the parents of Dharana who lives in Amolapati, Kakapather, lodged an FIR at the Doomdooma Police Station alleging that their daughter was strangled to death by her husband Shyam and father-in-law Rabin Deka on grounds of dowry.

It is learnt that the marriage of Dharana took place at Kakapather in the month of September, 2020. The deceased's in-laws allegedly physically and mentally tortured Dharana during the past three months while demanding dowry. She informed this to her parents over telephone from time to time. This was revealed by her parents before mediapersons.

Meanwhile, the police went to the spot and sent it for post-mortem examination to Tinsukia. A case was registered against Shyam Deka and his family and he was subsequently arrested. On the other hand, simmering tension prevailed near the Doomdooma Police Station as a group of people from Kakapather assembled in its neighbourhood. They were not satisfied at the fact that other members of Shyam Deka's family have not been arrested.

When asked, the officer -in-charge Inspector Dibyajyoti Dutta said that the police has already instituted an enquiry and there cannot be any chance of the culprits getting off scot-free.
