DIBRUGARH: A person is suspected to have slashed the throat of his wife with blade and after that with the same blade he slashed his own throat. The incident took place at the Plastic Surgery ward at AMCH on Friday morning. The person identified as Ranjit Das, an accused at Tinsukia police station is undergoing treatment at the plastic surgery ward of AMCH.

AMCH Principal-cum-chief Superintendent Sanjeeb Kakati said, "Ranjit Das on August 15 was admitted at plastic surgery ward with acid injury and from then onwards he was undergoing treatment at AMCH.

On Friday morning, from a bathroom of the surgery unit of AMCH, both husband and wife were found lying unconscious. The wife was already dead but Ranjit Das was still alive. We have immediately done his operation but he also died in the evening hours."

He said, "Ranjit Das was under the supervision of four policemen who came from Tinsukia with him. He was an accused of Tinsukia police station, who was undergoing treatment at AMCH."

Dibrugarh Additional Superintendent of Police (HQ) Bitul Chetia said, "Ranjit Das was an accused of some Tinsukia case. Due to acid burn injury he was admitted at AMCH. We suspect that Ranjit Das silt his wife's throat with the blade and after that he cut his throat with the same blade."

He further said, "Right now we cannot say much about the case because he was an accused of Tinsukia. But we have started our investigation and awaiting for postmortem report."
