Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti flays attack on journalists of the State

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) came down heavily against the growing attack on working journalists of the State. The organization staged a two-hour long sit-in in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday in order to register protest against the physical attack on Mukalmuwa journalist Rajen Deka, Tinisukia journalist Upasana Baruah Goswami, Jorhat journalist Rajib Borah and Sivsagar photo journalist Rajesh Singh.

The organization expressed vehement resentment over the condemnable attacks on the journalists by miscreants. “Such attacks are not only a threat to the four estates, but for democracy as a whole. We condemn all these misdeeds,” stated Raju Singha, the Lakhimpur unit secretary of MASS, leading the protest.

Extending support to the protest programme, North Lakhimpur Press Club president Sailen Baruah, secretary Karuna Krishna Nath along with other members of the Club, women right movement activist Parashmoni Hazarika, Sajad Hazarika of Muslim Gana Mancha, Hemanta Bonia of SC Students’ Union, poet Will Siddiqur Rahman MASS activists Ibrahim Ali, Hemanta Phukan, Mintu Mustak, Sumu Dutta, Hekim Ahmed, Bishnu Sarmah and Mir Jahan Ahmed were present in the sit-in.

The organization submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding exemplary punishment to the culprits who were involved in the attacks. The organization strongly demanded him to implement Journalist Security Act for their favour.

MORIGAON: Morigaon District Journalist Association on Tuesday staged a protest against the brutal attack on journalists by miscreants since the last four days in different districts of Assam, at the Bihutoli ground. The association strongly condemned the attacks and demanded the government to arrest the culprits soon.
