Mangaldai man detained in Bangladesh jail finally reunites with family

MANGALDAI: After the long wait of more than four years since February 12 of 2017 and subsequent conviction and detention in Bangladesh jail in mysterious circumstances, Mukul Hazarika, the ill-fated rickshaw puller of a Mangaldai village finally reunited with his parents, wife and three children at his home at Keotpara village (Hodapara) under Mangaldai Police station in Darrang district. After the formal handing over of Mukul Hazarika to Indian authority by the Bangladesh government at the Indo-Bangladesh border at Belonia in South Tripura on September 13, his father Phuleswar Hazarika and Sub Inspector of Police Dantejit Deuri of Mangaldai Police Station on Tuesday escorted him from Agartala airport to Guwahati Airport at 2 pm this afternoon and reached Mangaldai Police station at 5.30 pm this evening.

Mukul Hazarika who spent a long period of four years seven months quite unexpectedly in Feni Jail in Bangladesh that too after the expiry of his jail term today was seen visibly shaken with a vacant mind while reached Mangaldai Police Station. His long detention in an unusual atmosphere in a foreign jail and due to lack of the companion of Assamese speaking people, Mukul almost failed to speak in Assamese language and to recall his memory. He failed to talk about the circumstances that led to his missing and his subsequent landing in Bangladesh Jail. Immediately on his arrival Officer in Charge of Mangaldai Police Station Inspector Mosco Saikia as per the instruction from Superintendent of Police Er Sushanta Biswa Sarma accorded him a warm hospitality and arranged for medical checkup at Mangaldai Civil hospital and escorted him to his native village. Mention may be made here that this morning Head of the Department of Anatomy Department in Agartala Medical College Dr. Hara Prasad Sarma originally of Tihu Namati in Nalbari district extended all help and cooperation in getting the medical examination done within a short time to pave the way of Mukul Hazarika in his journey to his native village.

Mukul Hazarika's father Phuleswar Hazarika-a marginal village farmer immediately after his arrival at Mangaldai Police Station this evening while talking to 'The Sentinel' expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Superintendent of Police Er Sushanta Biswa Sarma.

This evening all the villagers including village women of Keotpara village (Hodapara) arranged a festive atmosphere in the village to welcome Mukul by placing banana trees decorated with flowers in a traditional way.
