MANGALDAI: Private medical practitioners in Mangaldai on Monday joined the countrywide 24-hour strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in protest against the increasing number of incidents of physical assault on doctors on duty in different places of the country, particularly of late in West Bengal.

Office bearers of Mangaldai Branch of IMA, Dr Rama Kanta Bora, Dr Kamaleswar Nath, Dr. Arabinda Deka, Dr. Brajen Bhatta, Dr Dulal Kalita, Dr Jogen Boro and Dr Izazul Hoque took part in the 24-hour strike from 6 am at District Library Complex. During the period of strike, the agitating doctors decided not to attend any non-essential services except emergency service in all healthcare institutions of the district.

Various social organizations, including Mangaldai Media Circle, visited the agitating medicos and expressed their solidarity towards their agitation and also strongly condemned the inhuman physical attack and torture on the doctors. Secretary of Mangaldai Media Circle, Mayukh Goswami has demanded for stringent action on anti-social elements who often make the doctors their target.
