Mankachar: Locals allege corruption in road building projects

Mancachar: Corruption charges have been levelled against the contractors of a road stretch n South Shalmara, Mankachar district of Assam.

Locals have alleged that the contractor HITECH company who is supposed to be building the approach road to the Sukchar bridge is using low-grade materials to build the road. The road stretch between Sukhchar and Patakata is being built with sub-standard material.

According to the locals of the area, the HITECH company was working on the construction of the bridge in 2013-14 which is almost done. The locals are alleging that the road was supposed to be built using concrete but instead, the road is now being built using low-quality concrete cement blocks (CC blocks).

They also claimed that they have informed the district commissioner about the issue but the district administration is yet to take any action.

A local resident said, "The project of the bridge started 5 years back. Earlier the manager of HITECH, Sharma Dev said, the road will be built with the concert and now suddenly we noticed that they are using CC blocks."

The construction department claimed lack of materials because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as a reason for using a different material than what was decided.

Locals are alleging that Sanowar Hussain, the Junior Engineer of the construction department of Mancachar is involved in this corruption.

The public is now demanding the government to immediately investigate the matter and ensure proper work on the approach road.
