Many villages in Barpeta district flooded due to heavy rainfall

BARPETA: Heavy rainfall during the last three days has led to flooding in many villages of Barpeta district. The Kurichhu Hydropower Plant of Bhutan has also been releasing excess water from time-to-time.

The water of the rivers Nakhanda and Marachowlkhowa has started receding while the Bhelengi River appeared stable on Friday. But the Bramhaputra and Beki rivers are flowing above danger level.

The Kurichhu Hydropower Plant released 1000 cumecs on Friday. The fresh wave of flood has affected total 68 villages, 63,271 people and 7,291 hectares cropland. The Sila- Suha road has been closed down due to flood and will remain closed until further order.
