MARGHERITA: A homage was paid to Chaolung Sukapha, the founder of the Ahom Empire, at his statue in Hill View in Assam's Margherita during the celebrations of Assam Divas.
Sukapha, referred to as the unifier of Greater Assam, was honoured with flowers and candles.
Sukapha, who founded the Ahom kingdom in Assam by crossing the Patkai hills in 1228 AD, is seen as a representation of harmony and unification.
The event, which featured a debate on the harmony and integration of several ethnic groups, was attended by renowned Tai language and culture researcher Pranab Gogoi.
Dignitaries and locals from the Margherita Co-District region attended the ceremony, which was organised by the Chaolung Sukapha Memorial Committee.
