NAHARKATIA: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) on Wednesday paid their homage to the four martyrs of the oil blockade agitation at Duliajan. The four youths -Nripen Bora, Kumud Gogoi, Ajit Bora and Nagen Deka- were remembered for sacrificing their lives in front of Industrial Gate of Oil India Limited while agitating peacefully in favour of the oil blockade protest on this day of 1980.

The programme organized by Duliajan Unit of AASU, witnessed various demands from the top leadership of the AASU. Participating in the programme, AASU in-charge president Utpal Sarma said, "I demand inclusion of the Assam Agitation in the academic curriculum of the country. The post- independence history of the country will be incomplete without Assam Agitation."

Participating in the programme, AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "If every clause of the Assam Accord is implemented, nobody will be able to question the success of the Assam Agitation. We will not stop until every clause of the Assam Accord will be implemented. Our struggle will continue till its complete implementation."

He further said, "Redetermination of LACs has to be done with an aim to make the indigenous people of Assam become the key factor in deciding the political power of the State. Redetermination of LACs will not be accepted if it is done to gain political benefits for any political party."

AASU chief advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that to implement the Assam Accord and deport the illegal foreigners from Assam, a bilateral agreement between the Government of India and Bangladesh Government must be signed.

The programme began after the family members of the four martyrs lit the lamps in front of their pictures.
