Massive fire in the New Market area of the Dibrugarh town

Dibrugarh: An inferno that broke out in the New Market area of the town in the early hours of Sunday, gutted one of the oldest cloth stores of Dibrugarh - Jagdish Cloth Store.

Fire fighters, accompanied by a team of State Disaster Response Force, flung into action to douse the flames, but could do so completely only after hours of relentless action. As per sources, commodities for sale like garments and papers made the fire grow more violent, that ended up reducing the longstanding cloth store to a point of zilch.

According to sources, the monetary loss could easily run into crores. Although the store had a residential building adjacent to it, no damage to life or property has been reported thus far. Given the massive popularity Jagdish Cloth Store enjoyed among the people, the site got flooded with a slew of town-dwellers, thus giving the security and police officials present there a tough time in crowd management.
