Massive protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill by Members of Nagaon Bar Association

NAGAON: Massive outcry and protest against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 are still continuing in Nagaon district. Members of Nagaon Bar Association, district journalists community and the district unit of National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Friday staged protests against Citizenship (amendment) bill separately in Nagaon. Hundreds of members of Nagaon Bar Association on Friday staged a protest against the fatal Amendment Bill and also criticized the role of the saffron party and its government tooth and nail. The advocates community of the district however appealed the BJP led Union government as well as the State government to withdraw or retract the suicidal bill at any cost.

On the other hand, hundred of NSUI members of the district also staged sit-in protests against the Bill near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Nagaon town. During their demonstration, five members of the brother organization of the Congress protested against the bill by shaving their heads and shouted various slogans against PM Narendra Modi, his government and the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Simultaneously, opposing the proposed Bill, hundred of journalists of the entire district took out a procession throughout Nagaon town. Followed by it, the community organized a rally at Nagaon Swahid Bhavan. Various journalists and other social activists, as well as the intellectual of the district, slammed the BJP led Union government as well as the State government for such deadly initiatives in favour of the Amendment Bill.
