Massive torchlight rally by AASU, AJYCP against CAA in Naharkatia

NAHARKATIA: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) Naharkatia regional unit led a massive torch rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 at Naharkatia on Saturday evening, calling for scrapping of the Act and pledging to fight till death. The protest march was joined by AJYCP, AATSA and 30 other organizations, senior citizens and general public. A massive gathering of nearly 3,000 people from every walk of life irrespective of caste, community and religion spontaneously participated in the procession which started from AASU Naharkatia regional office passed through the main thoroughfares of Naharkatia town via Vidyamandir road which culminated at Moran Tiniali. The activists shouted various slogans against the Union and State governments.

AASU Naharkatia regional unit advisor Bitupan Gogoi said, “We pledge to fight against this contentious Act till death. We neither agreed to this CAA earlier, nor will we agree to it now. We will fight against this Act till it is scrapped.”
