Measures to make Lakhimpur accident-free, district administration initiates strict action against drunken driving

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district administration has initiated effective measures to reduce accidents across the district.
In this connection, a slew of resolutions was taken in the meeting of District Road Safety Committee, held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's Office. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan who laid stress on the impactful execution of the instructions issued by the Chief Minister and the Government of Assam in this regard. During the meeting, detailed discussion was held over the numbers and mood of accidents that took place in the district in the month of November.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed the district police and Transport Department to charge fine on the people who drive bike and cars in drunken condition. This instruction was given in order to prevent fatalities during the celebration of Christmas and New Year.
The district administration also instructed the Transport Department to enforce road safety measures and identify spots where accidents take place frequently and to maintain strict vigil in picnic spots across the district. The Excise Department was instructed to take steps against the illegal sale of liquor at picnic spots.
As per resolution taken in the meeting, teams of Transport Department will be vigilant at each and every picnic spot to ensure that nobody indulges in drunken and reckless driving. Checking in connection with the use of helmet, seat belt, consumption of liquor, possession of driving licence and other documents by drivers will also be held on the PWD roads and on the stretches of the National Highways belonging to Lakhimpur district. Action will be taken against bike stunts, speed driving. Patrolling will be intensified on National Highways and important roads across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner called upon the people of the district to ensure that Lakhimpur becomes an accident-free district.
