Tezpur: A day-long tour of media personnel from Guwahati and Tezpur was organized at Air Force Station Tezpur on Thursday on the occasion of the 87th Anniversary of Indian Air Force on October 8. The visit provided an opportunity for close interaction between the Air Force and media resulting in a better understanding of the role played by the IAF in general and the Eastern Air Command (EAC) in particular. The media personnel were welcomed by Air Commodore Tejpal Singh VM, Air Officer Commanding Air Force Station Tezpur

The media personnel were briefed on the history and role of Eastern Air Command during peace and war. The services rendered by the Indian Air Force during natural calamities like floods and landslides in the eastern sector were also briefed to the team. The team witnessed low-level aerobatics by SU-30 MKI, static display of aircraft and combat display by the Garuds.

Eastern Air Command is one of the oldest operational Commands, responsible for a very large area and home to some of the most hostile terrain and environmental conditions which pose very unique challenges to aviation. The Command in the last few years has witnessed large scale infrastructure development and induction of combat assets, including SU-30 MKI fighter aircraft, new Radars and missile systems. This year the IAF is celebrating the Birth Centenary of Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh besides the Diamond Jubilee of the formation of HQ EAC. The Command was established on December 1, 1959. It is a coincidence that Air Force Station Tezpur is also celebrating its Diamond Jubilee in the same year.
